I have a Dean MXL that sounds great structurally but pickups are killing me...Suggestions?

I'm looking to play lead but I want pickups with some . I like how EMG's sound but I dont like active pickups...too much of a pain in the ***. Any suggestions for pive pickups? Also, recommended strings? I dont want something too heavy to shred on but to light to play a beefy riff.
